Looters

Looters like to take advantage of when a tradgic incident happens. Instead of coming together when things like this happen and help each other out they just want to do what would be better for themselves. They need to realize that as a community we need to help each other out.
In the article "Looters target Coney Island after Sandy sweeps through" the man who owns a store in this town said "we are suppose to come together as a community during times of crisis, not pick at each other like vultures." That is very true, he is a human being just like they are. He lost things just like they did. But now, since the Looters invaded his store he has to pay the prices of all the damage that the hurricane did and now, pay for all of the things that they took from him. People don't realize that the world would be a better place if we helped each other out and came together. Instead everyone is just worried about thereselves and no one else.
Hopefully if people read the article they will realize what they really are doing to people just like them.

$$$GAS PRICES$$$

The article is "Gas prices higher than a year ago". The author is talking about how high the gas prices are getting. Gas prices are getting so bad that it is going to be hard for people to afford it. Especially people who have no jobs, with the economy not doing so great it's a lot harder for people to be able to get jobs and afford the gas prices. The author was informing the audience (us) about the prices and gave us information on where the cheapest prices are in Arkansas. The author also gave us city's that had very high gas prices. Most likely to warn us, so we can fill up our tanks before we get into towns that have high gas prices. I think that author did a good job and accomplished their purpose in writing this article. In the text they state " The national average has begun to drop nicely over the last week, and while it certainly doesn't feel like much, it is noteworthy". I always love to see the gas stations prices lower, even if it is just a couple cents.

Sheriff: Inmate attempts suicide

In the article "Inmate attempts suicide" an inmate in the Batesville County Jail a man named Derrick Hicks age only of 31 tried to kill himself. He had cuts that he had put on himself on his left wrist, left ankle, and right knee. But the jailers could not find the object he used to harm his self. My best friend committed suicide a little bit over a year ago and I am glad that this man didn't successfully do that to him self because I know when your in "that state of mind" you don't think anyone would care or miss you, but many people would. I think that the author did a very good job on fullfilling his or her purpose in this article. Filling the town of Batesville in on the news. The only thing that I would have liked to know more about was what kind of condition he was in. The article stated "At press time today a patient update from WRMC was not available on Hicks condition". I guess the author did as much as he was capable of. But in this article the author said "Jailers told Darr that around 9:55 p.m. cellmates of Hicks started yelling for help and when a jailer arrived he found the bleeding Hicks and gave a radio alert of man down". "I spoke with both inmates who stated they were sitting at the door watching TV from the food service hole(bean hole) and didn't see Hicks cut himself until after it was done." I don't understand why they didn't search the other inmates for weapons, or investigated them a little bit more to see if they had anything to do with the harm of Hicks, because in the last part of the article Hicks said "He did not remember doing this to himself". Darr asked Hicks if he had ever attempted suicde in the past and he stated "yes, while being stationed in Germany." Maybe Hicks inmates harmed him, or maybe, the fears of him being in Iraq or being stationed in Germany came back to him while he was sleeping.

SchoolChoice Case

The state gods to court over the "Arkansas Public School Choice Acr". They use the 14th Amendment to support their different views on the school transfer law. I think that it could be helpful for people to be able to transfer to which school they want to because maybe they would have more friends at another school. Or maybe they would want to switch schools because they get bullied at true school they go to now. "Assistant Attonery General Scott Richardson made the most recent argument Friday in court filing asking that the law-which affects thousands of student in the state- remain in place. The law allows students to transfer out of their school district unless the percentage of enrollment of the students race exceeds." They also state in the newspaper that "the racial limitation in the laws was necessary to prevent segregation." I don't understand why they are so worried about people's race. It's not the 1600's people!

WTC

My inference is that the 450,000 gallons of water that fill the WTC pools, is the space that was where the buildings sat. The reason that the pools are so deep is possibly because of how deep the WTC sat in the ground. In the text they stated that the "two reflecting pools stand in the footprints of the former WTC buildings". That statement had me think that the pools are part of the originial foundation of the WTC.

Forgiveness:Titanic

I look down from Heaven and watch the rest of the Titanic sink. Questions rush to my head, "I thought the ship was unsinkable?" "Why weren't we more prepared?" I see people jumping off into the water, I hear shrieking from the people that were left. The Titanic disappeared into the darkness of the sea. I lay here watching the hundreds of dead bodies laying in the water, and I wonder if my children are now safe and warm. I could have been saved if the boat had just come back. I could be holding them in my arms right now. Will my kids ever be able forgive the "rich" people on the boat who wouldn't come back for me? I am now in a better place, where there is only happiness. How could I not forgive them for sending me here?
